Paolo Scavino "BRICCO AMBROGIO" Barolo

Paolo Scavino "BRICCO AMBROGIO" Barolo

Vintage: 2019
Description: Kerin O'keefe 96 Points - "Thanks to its location in an open valley where heat gets dispersed, the Scavinos Bricco Ambrogio vines benefit from marked diurnal and nocturnal temperature variations that encourage the development of great aromatics and slightly softer tannins than the other crus. The 2019 clearly demonstrates this, with its heady fragrance of blue flower, ripe berry and flavors of raspberry compote, cranberry, licorice and a dollop of mocha. Taut, fine-grained tannins provide the enveloping framework while fresh acidity keeps it balanced and energized. Drink 20282044. Abv: 14.5% Kerin OKeefe April 2023 kerinokeefe.com". James Suckling 95 Points - "This is more open than other single vineyard releases from Scavino with plum, raspberry and black cherry aromas with hints of honeysuckle. Some wet earth. Full-bodied with chewy tannins on the palate. Hints of citrus skin. Pure. Needs time to soften. Try after 2028.". Founded back in 1921, the winery developed into its modern state under Paolo's son, Enrico, who has in turn passed operations on to his daughters Enrica and Elisa. They inherited Enrico's openness to continual improvements in their vineyards and winemaking, and it shows in the quality of the wines today. As they have grown over the decades, they have ended up with one of the widest ranges of vineyards within the Barolo appellation, and their winemaking allows for an equally wide range of personalities to emerge.
