Notes from the Winemaker:. 2011 Tintonegro Malbec, Vineyard 1955. One of Mendoza's great viticultural riches are the beatuiful old vine vineyards of La Consulta. The vines are naturally balanced with exceptionally low yields - often under 1.5 lb. per vine. The fruit has a wonderful balance between rich concentration and elegant balance. the wine is barrel fermented for seamless oak integration and aged for 18 months in new French oak. Soil Profile. Light sandy, silty soil, very shallow with a subsoil of calcareous covered round rocks. Very poor soil profile causes the vines to struggle to produce low yields of highly concentrated fruit. Vinification. Barrel-fermented in French oak barrels from Burgundian cooper François Frères. 10 day cold maceration and 26 day fermentation, with maximum temperature of 16ºC. All manual cap management with 8-10 punching downs per day. Oak Aging 18 months in French oak, 39% new. Technical Information. Alcohol: 14% by volume. pH:3.8. Acidity: 5.5. |
