Opus One Napa Valley 1.5L

Vintage: 2017
Winery: Opus One
Description: In 1970, two titans of wine came together in a chance meeting at a hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii. A little less than a decade later, Opus One was born. How could this Napa Valley estate be anything other than the cult phenomenon that it is? After all, it's not every day that Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Bordeaux's of Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi of Napa Valley's Robert Mondavi Winery join forces to create a singular Bordeaux-style blend that unites the New World terroir of its Oakville vineyards and the Old World style of its historical roots (in the 1990s, the winery began occasional releases of a second wine, the nonvintage Overture). In 1984, the first two vintages of Opus One hit the markets as both the 1979 and 1980 bottlings saw release. The wine became an immediate collector classic, and more than forty vintages later, Opus One remains one of the most expensive, most collectible, and most lauded Napa Valley wines. While Robert Mondavi sold its half of Opus One to Constellation Brands in 2004, but the Rothschilds retain the other half, and Opus One continues to hold onto its status of one of the greatest cult collector wines from California.
