Pierre Gelin Chambertin-clos De Beze Grand Cru
Vintage: | 2011 |

Description: | 90 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound.com - "Note: from two parcels of vines measuring.65 ha, one with approximately 40 years of age and the other with a venerable 100 years of age; however, there is now only.31 ha in production as the older vines were ripped up Producer note: Pierre-Emmanuel Gelin called 2011 a "difficult vintage that presented quite a number of challenges along the way. We began picking on the 6th of September and because there was a bit of rot we did some sorting though nothing that was really serious. Quantities were about 30% less than normal but with good ripeness levels as the potential alcohols ranged between 11.2 and 12.3%. We used no whole clusters and did our normal vinification. As to the ladybug issue that you asked about, we did not see any more than we usually do and I can't imagine that our wines were affected by their presence in any way." I would describe the Gelin 2011s as being in-line with the general quality of the 2011 vintage. Gelin noted that his 2011s were bottled in July, 2013. Note that the Fixin "La Cocarde" is a new appellation for the domaine. Tasting note: An overtly spicy nose of very fresh, cool and airy aromas of red berries and dark currants gives way to highly energetic, delicious and mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive texture before culminating in a linear, intense and lingering finish where the supporting acidity is sufficiently prominent to be somewhat drying. Like the Les Hervelets my score offers the benefit of the doubt that this will harmonize with a few years of bottle age." |
