| Description: | In 2013, then Cellar Master Dominique Demarville created a unique Champagne blend composed exclusively from reserve wines, in order to express the quintessence of Yellow Label in paying tribute to Madame Clicquot and her pioneering innovations. Thus was born the Extra Brut Extra Old cuve, a particularly singular Champagne. Hi-Time Cellars was able to Direct Import a small parcel of that groundbreaking Champagne and of course it quickly sold out never to return. The good news is that in 2019, the House released a second edition to the collection, Extra Brut Extra Old 2, and once again we have acquired a small stash for your consideration. Extra Brut Extra Old 2 is a complex, nuanced blend of eight of the House's prestigious reserve wines - 1990, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012, aged for a minimum of five years. Pinot Noir dominates the blend (45%) and provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot, followed by Chardonnay (27%) that adds finesse and elegance essential in a perfectly balanced wine, and then Meunier (28%) that rounds out the blend. The ageing potential is more than 15 years. Veuve Cliquot is normally bottled at 6 atmospheres but this Champagne was bottled at 4.5 which imparts a more vinous personality. If you are a Clicquot fan or just someone who appreciates the sublime subtleties wrought by artful blending then this master work is not to be missed. Wine Advocate 91 Points - "One of the most interesting wines in the Veuve Cliquot portfolio is the Nv Extra-Brut Extra Old, a blend of reserve wines from 2010 back to 1988though the latter only represents some 2% of the assemblagethat spent three years in foudre before tirage, followed by three years sur lattes before disgorgement. Opening in the glass with a complex bouquet of toasted nuts, candied peel, orchard fruit, peach and smoke, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and saline, with a textural profile, lively acids and a long finish." |
