Tatenokawa Seiryu "STREAM" Junmai Daiginjo Sake 720ml
Description: | Prefecture: Yamagata. Rice Variety: Dewasansan. Seimaibuai (Rice polishing ratio): 50%. Abv: 14%. Acidity: +1. Smv (Sake Meter Value): -2. Our Sake of the Year #2 is a killer Daiginjo at an excellent price from Tatenokawa brewery. Typically one must spend $40 to get a good Daiginjo so this is a screaming deal to sell well under $30; and the fact that this comes from Tatenokawa makes things all the better. Their team has brewed a remarkably light and easy-drinking Sake named "Seiryu" Junmai Daiginjo. "Seiryu" translated from Japanese means "Clear Stream," and, after having imbibed on it, we can verify this is an accurate description. This light-bodied sake is super-sleek on the palate with a soft bouquet of fresh cantaloupe, pear and honeydew. One veteran Wine Staffer who tasted it (Cyrille) said she liked the meadowy freshness of it, and described it as "fine, crisp linen on a sunny day." Indeed! This sake is made from Dewasanan rice, polished down to 50% of the rice grain, giving it Daiginjo-level status. On the palate, more of that green melon emerges along with slight fennel and a hint of cantaloupe. The finish is very dry, clean and swift. The alcohol percentage is a mild 14%. Enjoy this with scallops, amberjack, and more delicate fare. Serve chilled, or can also be enjoyed heated. |
