| Description: | Review Massolino has really been on a roll over the last few vintages. The 2014s are truly impressive wines that further solidify the estate's place among the elite producers of Barolo. While these wines have been terrific for quite some time, in recent years Massolino has found an added element of finesse and nuance. Readers should note that Massolino did not bottle their Barolo Parussi in 2014. From 2014 Barolo: Surprise, Surprise… (Feb 2018) by Antonio Galloni. Wine Spectator 93 points - Plum, earth, hay, leather, licorice, tar and iron flavors are the hallmarks of this powerful red. Offers a dense matrix of tannins, but the finish is long and finds equilibrium in the end. Best from 2022 through 2043. 4,166 cases made, 2,500 cases imported. -bs (Mar 30 2019). Wine Advocate 90 points - The 2014 Barolo is an accessible, mid-weight wine with varietal aromas of wild berry, smoke, forest floor and grilled herb. This wine washes over the palate with silky intensity and fine tannins that already show a very good level of integration. I would wait a few more years to enjoy this bottle, but ultimately this wine can be consumed in the near or medium term. It already shows very nice balance at this young age. Bottle production is 50,000 units strong. (Sep 2018) Appearance: garnet red colour with variable intensity depending on the vintage. - Bouquet: the grapes come from different subzones in Serralunga and this gives them a broad and variable spectrum of perfumes, ranging from tempting spicy notes to those of a sweeter, floral and fruity nature. - Flavour: a variety of sensations, with a full-bodied, classic and well structured wine which ages well and perfectly represents the important character of our land. |
