Winery: | Feiler-Artinger |
Description: | Harvested from vineyards in the hills above Rust; vines 10-38 years of age grown in brown soil with a slight clay content and a bit of limestone, over subsoils of granite and gneiss. Fermented in stainless steel, then does malolactic fermentation in large wooden casks. Maturation in large wood as well. Zippy fruit with dark cherry aromatics, which follow smartly on to the palate. Soft and finely-woven tannins. Could be slightly chilled and be served similar to a good Beaujolais, but would also work with fairly hearty dishes as the acid cuts through meats with sauces. The 2011 vintage provided excellent ripeness, this Zweigelt turns out to be nicely structured as well. |
