Valderiz Ribera del Duero

Valderiz Ribera del Duero

Vintage: 2011
Description: Great wine, densely grained, complex and expressive. Un ique with an understated intensity; extremely long. To keep. Sje Bold expression of Tinto Fino: crunchy red cherries, with aniseed and black olives, and a long savoury finish. Superbly fresh. This is built for the long haul. Original. Pm Blueberry, red fruits and floral aromas; a real grower. It's effortless in its intensity. The tannins are firm but balanced, chewy; starts tight, yet fruit persists well on the finish. This is very classy and would benefit from being decanted to drink in its youth. Review Unlike many modern wineries in Ribera del Duero, Valder iz was founded by a man of the region, Tomás Esteban. Surely because of that, all his vines (60ha) are bush-trained and organically grown. Recently he has started converting to biodynamic viticulture in some plots. His vines are planted at Roa, the informal capital of one of the three distinctive sub-regions in Ribera. Hands-off winemaking, with no additives and classic ageing in 80% French oak and 20% American oak, for 24 months, produces a wine that, in the 2010 vintage, shows the sheer beauty of the best Tempranillo.
