Description: | Winemaker Philippe Chéron and his son, Paul, form an exceptional duo in Gevrey-Chambertin, continuing the family's rich winemaking legacy as the third and fourth generations of talent. In 2020, they launched Domaine du Couvent, a new name in Burgundy, with 25 acres of prime Côte de Nuits terroirs. The estate includes parcels in Gevrey, Chambolle, Vougeot, Vosne, and Nuits, with three of these vineyards being estate monopoles, meaning Philippe and Paul exclusively farm these extraordinary plots. Domaine du Couvent is now making waves, and it's a privilege to introduce their wines to the U.S. market for the first time. The Chéron family's deep-rooted history in Burgundy stretches across generations, with Philippe previously leading Domaine Misset-Chéron before merging it with holdings from Domaine des Varoilles in Gevrey, also family-owned. The name "Couvent" honors the former convent in Gevrey, which houses one of the estate's prized monopole vineyards, Clos du Couvent. Committed to organic practices, though not certified, Philippe and Paul care for their vines with the utmost respect for nature, while their cellar work remains traditional and minimalist. Aging occurs in cold cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges, with very little sulfur added, allowing their wines to express the pure essence of their unique terroirs. |
