| Description: | Organically Farmed. 100% Sangiovese. This is a vibrant, mid-bodied, juicy Sangiovese with a winemaking focus on the purity of the grapes. A lifted, floral quality adds to the fresh, focused perfume. Spontaneously fermented with some whole grapes in lined concrete, aged in a mix of large, untoasted oak barrels and lined concrete. James Suckling 93 Points - " Black cherry and violet aromas with hints of lemon peel. Crushed stone as well. Medium body, well integrated tannins and a creamy texture of lovely tannins and fruit.". It's a beautiful expression of Gaiole in Chianti, with Riecine's relatively high, sloped vineyards close to the Chianti Mountains, planted in a mix of marine sandstone, calcareous clay, and shale. This tends to make wines with a fresher profile of both red and darker fruits, along with notably soft, finessed aspects to the mouthfeel, and a touch of vigorous-but-lean tannic structure. In youth, Riecine's fruit takes on a pure character whose savoriness is in its minerality, while requiring bottle age to develop its hidden complexity of tobacco, leather, and dried herb notes. Riecine was established in 1971, when Brit John Dunkley bought 1.5ha from a monastery. Under new ownership as of 2011, it now comprises eight vineyards at an average altitude of 500 metres above sea level, certified organically farmed. Fermented in unlined concrete vats and aged in a combination of concrete, large casks and used tonneaux. |
