Description: | Wine Enthusiast : 90 Points and Editors' Choice "This is a big-hearted, ripe wine from the Verhaeghe family, one of the top producers in Cahors. It is packed with black fruits and firm tannins. They promise richness to come with structure, wood aging flavors and density. It's a wine that is just starting out, still boasting its youthful fruit. Give it until 2020 before drinking.". Vines were planted in Cahors by 50 BC, and wine has been produced here since Roman times. For centuries the wines were referred to as "Black Wine" for their density and intense pigmentation. Malbec makes up the lion's share of vines (about 70%), with the balance in Merlot and Tannat. Cahors wines are required to be at least 70% Malbec, continuing this deeply pigmented tradition that often requires the bottles be cellared for a number of years to develop prior to serving. |
