| Description: | Wine maker notes Poacher's was created when Stuart Blackwell secretly harvested a Semillon vineyard in the middle of the night to square up an unpaid debt for St Hallett. His conscience did get the better of him and he confessed to the grower. Fortunately both parties agreed to a mutually beneficial arrangement for St Hallett to continue using the grapes and it continues to be a component of Poacher's today. Producer Warmth, honesty and integrity are a way of life at St Hallett. At the heart of our tight-knit crew are winemakers Stuart Blackwell and Toby Barlow, who best exemplify the extensive experience, continuous sense of evolution and respect for the region that underpins St Hallett's rich Barossa heritage. Our History & Winemaking Philosophy Established by the Lindner family in 1944 St Hallett's initial focus was the production of fortified wines. The first vintage of Old Block Shiraz in 1980 and its success, accelerated a shift of focus towards the premium table wines St Hallett has become renowned for ever since. Together with other established Barossa winery families such as Rockford, Lehmann, Melton and Burge, St Hallett understood the importance of saving the old vines and focusing on the key varieties for the Barossa region - particularly Shiraz. Strong long-term relationships with focussed and passionate growers give St Hallett access to the Barossa's most prized vineyards with some dating back over 100 years. Over time St Hallett has built up a deep understanding of the rich tapestry of sites and climates in the Barossa and with it an appreciation of both dedicated growers and quality vines. An unrivalled dedication to preserving the integrity of these individual growers' parcels of fruit has always been the St Hallett philosophy. By tailoring fermentation and maturation to each parcel, we reveal the rich textures, depth and diversity of Barossa wine. |
