| Description: | Unfortunately for the old bishop, he wagered his 80-hectare property which was transferred to civil engineer Raymond Etienne Amiel. If you know anything about French winemaking at the time, you know that phylloxera would begin to ravage the area soon after. In comes Camille Gouzy, a winemaking merchant, who joined forces with Amiel's son to rebuild the vineyards by adapting American vines. It worked, and Mas Amiel's production began to soar. By 1907, they began crafting the fortified wines they became renowned for. |
