Vintage: | 2020 |

Description: | A blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 30% Meunier. Disgorged January 2023 with a dosage of 7 g/l. Damien Goulard is the 4th generation taking care of the family estate, created in 1978. It encompasses 18.5 acres of vines spread over some 50 small parcels, all in the sub-region known as the Massif de Saint-Thierry - a high elevation site in the northern most part of the Champagne appellation. Technically, its part of the Montage de Reims, but is truly a terroir on its own. Goulard is based in the village of Prouilly where there are two main soil types - a sandy- clay mix that favors Pinot Meunier, and limestone & clay over chalk that suits both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He grows all three grapes, but the majority of the estate is planted to Meunier. The family used to sell grapes to the coop but when Damien took over in 2008, he wanted to focus on making terroir driven wines and thus converted the viticulture to organic following biodynamic principles. The winemaking is aligned, with long aging, partially in barrel depending on the plot and variety. |
