Villadoria Senatore Primo

Barbera,Dolcetto from Piemonte

Vintage: 2016
Description: Wine maker notes This wine is an ode to history, a ‘thank you' to the person the Lanzavecchia family owes its wine origins to, the tale of a man, a husband, an adventurer, a soldier, a farmer, a wine grower, a father who had the courage to look for a new way, to keep on dreaming even at the most difficult times, who had a passion for his vines and for politics and was known by his friends as the ‘Senatur', Senator in Piedmontese. This wine resembles Daniele Lanzavecchia Senior and speaks of him, telling the story of an adventure in farming Italy in the interwar period, up to the foundation of Villadoria as it is today. It has a yesteryear style, something of the wine which you couldn't resist drinking too much of at the osteria and accompanied evenings of song and laughter…. Food pairing It is a wine which goes well with all courses, from starters to full flavoured pasta and rice dishes and fairly mild flavoured meat dishes. Producer In long ago 1887, Daniele Lanzavecchia was born in a difficult land, outside Monferrato, near Alessandria. Times were hard, and two world wars in succession did not make life easy; but it was in those sad times that the idea of creating something took root. Starting with a small vine cuttings nursery, so began the tradition and love of the Lanzavecchia family for this plant, which holds within itself a part of our civilization's history and the eternal relationship between man and nature. Later it would be Pietro, Daniele's son, who would realize that the area most suited for the cultivation of grape vines is the Langa. It was here that in 1959 he created the company as it is known today, buying vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, and later building the winery together with his son, Daniele. Nowadays it is the latter who runs the company together with his daughter Paola.
