Description: | Description: The Cartuxa name is inspired by the Carthusian Monks who, since 1598, have lived a solitary life of prayer in the Carthusian Monastery, property of the EugĂŠnio de Almeida Foundation since 1869. This is where, in the silence of its cellars, the wines are aged. With a strong personality and a rigorous selection of the finest grapes, Cartuxa wines have a bold expression and lively personality. Produced for the first time in 1986, they are wines of tradition and quality, classics of the Alentejo region. With their new state-of-the-art gravity-fed facilities, they were able to produce pristine red as well as white varietals. The wine exhibits deep burgundy color with aromas of baking chocolate and red currants. The palate reveals firm tannin that will soften as it aerates. Full-bodied wine with notes of black cherry, bay leaves (savory herbs), and a fleshy texture. Good acid/ alcohol balance. Food pairings: Braised meats, duck, game, lamb chops, roasted chicken, root vegetables (roasted or grilled), lentils (beans), stews, etc. |
