| Description: | Pierluigi Lugano has a passion for the wines of Liguria. He nurtured this passion first as a wine trader, then as a retailer, and finally as a winemaker when he founded Bisson in 1978. Pierluigi works with a handful of devoted winegrowers who understand not only the challenges of cultivating grapes on the rocky, steep vineyards of Cinque Terre, but also who are dedicated to the preservation of the history of Ligurian wines. Pierluigi chooses farmers who are devoted to indigenous Liguran varietals, and Pierluigi has also purchased vineyards and salvaged several parcels of rare Ligurian vines, which include Bianchetta Genovese, Albarola, and Bosco. These grapes appear in Bisson's U Pastine, a monovarietal Bianchetta Genovese and the estate's Marea, a blend of Albarola and Bosco. Most recently Bisson became famous for crafting Liguria's first ocean-refined sparkling wine, Abissi, which ages on the seabed of Sestri Levante, where the cool waters and gentle currents offer a unique, ideal climate for maturation. |
