| Description: | 'Strev' Moscato is a super high quality Moscato d'Asti from the Marenco family. The Strevi hills in Piedmont have been known for cultivating the finest Moscato 'forever' as Andrea Marenco told us when he and his mother Michela visited the Bottle Shop in early 2015. The Strevi hills are located in the eastern part of the Asti DOCG appellation. The Moscato grapes grown here are known for their exceptional ripeness levels due to the warm microclimate and steep hillsides. We truly enjoyed meeting Michela and her son Andrea Marenco. These estate-bottled, family-made wines are such a high quality at very fair prices. Founded in 1896, the estate bought many acres of high quality vineyards under the leadership of Giuseppe Marenco in the 1950's. His three daughters have taken over all aspects of the winery and vineyards, including Patrizia as enologist. Michela told us she loves working with her sisters Doretta and Patrizia, and that they are always making the best wines they can make. On a culinary note for this wine, if you would like to pair this Moscato with a traditional cheese of the region, pair it with Langa La Tur or Robiola, both are made with 3 milks, sheep, cow and goat, alongside dried apricots, fresh sliced peaches, or juicy clementines. Or.if you would like to serve it as an aperitif, pair with classic Italian fried Calamari, or try something modern and new, by pairing with Japanese Tempura! Andrea said it is a new-found pairing that is positively delicious.for lovers of sweet or fruity white wines, this Moscato would actually be ideal with all of the foods in a good Japanese Byo. |
