Production Notes The grapes for our 2011 Barbera were harvested on September 22nd, 2011 at 25.2 deg. Brix. After fermenting on the skins for 7 days, the must was pressed and the resulting wine completed fermentation in stainless steel. The wine was further aged primarily in french oak for approximately 6 months. Winemaker Notes The 2011 Barbera from McManis Family Vineyards is medium ruby in color. Bright, focused, Red Raspberry is the predominant fruit. However, black fruit and Cherry are also found. There is also faint clove contributed from oak aging. The wine is medium bodied, with soft medium tannins. The acidity of the wine amplifies the fruit flavors, and a nice hint of Mocha lingers long after the wine has been swallowed. Region Description. California produces the majority of wine made in the United States. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Pinot Noir dominate the wine production in California, but many other varietials thrive in the California climate. Many fine wines are produced in California using Mediterranean grapes. |
