Description: | Organically & Biodynamically Farmed. Unlitro is produced from a blend of Alicante (aka Grenache), Carignano, Mourvèdre, Sangiovese and Alicante Bouschet grapes coming from the youngest vineyards close to the sea. With minimal intervention winemaking, it's more rustic and less polished, without "wine makeup." Serve cool to the touch. Ampeleia is a winery in the Upper Maremma region of Tuscany, located in Roccatederighi, a medieval town in the province of Grosseto (at the heart of the Colline Metallifere National Geopark/UNESCO heritage). It was started in 2002 as a collaboration between Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann, and Giovanni Podini not only to develop an agricultural project but also to fulfill a common vision. They wanted to represent the inherent diversity and huge potential of this particular area of Maremma, the "Colline Metallifere," which are not the coastal lowlands one usually associates with the Maremma, but mineral-rich hills that have been mined since Etruscan times. Their vineyards are made up of different plots of land, located far apart and on different altitude levels, with the precise aim of creating a great variability in altitude, soil type and microclimatic conditions; each vineyard has a distinctive identity that is enhanced by the uniqueness of the surrounding environment. The grape varieties that have been planted are common in Mediterranean farmlands. The estate focuses on Cabernet Franc and Alicante Nero, a distinctly Tuscan biotype of Grenache. They cultivate the land in the most natural way possible (biodynamic farming) and produce their wines in a similar manner and in very small quantities. |
