| Description: | Julien Altaber is a busy guy! He makes his own wines at Domaine Julien Altaber, and also takes care of winemaking at Domaine Derain, albeit surely with Dominique hanging out with a glass in his hand closeby. Like the Derain estate, Julien's winery is nestled in the town of Saint-Aubin, and most of his vines are from the general vicinity. This Bourgogne Blanc from the generous yet balanced 2022 vintage, was a hit when we tasted it. The winemaking is low-intervention, perhaps no SO2 added here, though we're not certain. Regardless, you'd never know. This is classic White Burgundy showing the potential richness that the area has to offer (St. Aubin is just over the hill from Puligny Montrachet!), but without being rich. No new oak used here, so the expression is pure Chardonnay. -EL |
