Mullineux Granite Syrah

Mullineux Granite Syrah

Vintage: 2017
Winery: Mullineux
Description: 95 pts Tim Atkin Mw Generally shown first in a line-up of the Mullineux's three soil specific Syrahs, this is firm, dense and entirely whole bunch fermented with damson and blackberry fruit, sappy tannins, one-third new oak and notes of black tea, lavender and Mediterranean spices. Needs time. 93 pts Wine Spectator Tightly coiled, with an alluring velvety feel, showing notes of raspberry sauce and blackberry juice at the core. Violet perfume and juniper accents add to the charm as this persists on the finish. Give this a few more years to start showing its best. Best from 2022 through 2035. 92 pts Wine Advocate Structured on the nose, the 2017 Granite Syrah has a black-fruited core with classic black pepper notes and hints of oak. The wine is still tightly wound on the palate, with dusty blackberries and a mineral tension to the mid-palate. Soft black pepper tones coupled with grippy and fine-grained tannins linger on the long finish. Not yet released, this wine shows tremendous aging potential. 2019-2038 92 pts Vinous The 2017 Granite Syrah needs a little encouragement from the glass to reveal scents of blackberry, raspberry coulis, fennel and gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins and a fine bead of acidity. There is a satisfying salinity throughout this Syrah, and a pleasing brightness on the finish. Excellent winemaking here, and I suspect this will age with style. 2022 - 2040
