Cave de Tain Marsanne Premiere Note

Cave de Tain Marsanne Premiere Note

Marsanne

Description: Review This is one of the most significant producers in the northern Rhone, overseeing its members' 1,000 -plus hectares of vines, which are spread across all of the appellations of what might be called the southern northern Rhone, meaning everywhere except Cote-Rotie and Condrieu. Pride of place must go to the Hermitage holdings, which now total a full 21 hectares, putting the Cave behind Chapoutier (34 hectares) and Jaboulet (25 hectares) and ahead of J.L. Chave (14 hectares) for Hermitage hill bragging rights. Quality here has never been better, and today the Cave's wines, both red and white, can stand among the best bottlings of their respective appellations. Much credit must go to Managing Director Xavier Gomart, winemakers Olivier Ciosi and Xavier Frouin and vineyard manager Daniel Brissot (who has been overseeing the Cave's vines for 34 years now), whose experienced team seems to have found a new gear in recent vintages. From 2016 Northern Rhone Whites: Excellent but Often Scarce (May 2018) by Josh Raynolds. Producer Located between Valence and Lyon, Cave de Tain lies at the foot of the Hermitage hillside. At the heart of the historic northern Rhône vineyards, the cave produces and markets 5 "cru" wines and single varietal Vins de Pays from over 1000 hectares of vines (appellations Hermitage, Crozes Hermitage, Saint Joseph, Cornas and Saint Peray), making it the leading producer of "cru" wines in the northern Rhône Valley.
