Very Olde St. Nick Ancient Cask 15 Years Old Bourbon
Description: | Nose: A hint of orange/tangerine citrus is forward, matching the tangerine-peel color, but rich, giving a marmalade-treacle sense. Vanilla underneath. Taste: Light on the tongue, with the citrus first sense quickly giving way to young leather. But the slight bitterness of the leather quickly reverts back to a tangerine-y sweetness. Interesting how quickly the taste sensations progress. The citrus is the main sense but for that brief, tannic middle. Finish: Not short, but so light it seems almost a trick of memory. Very citric, which seems to be the theme here. Refreshingly cool. Overall: If you like oranges, orange-peel candy, tangerines, this baby's for you. Citrus is its watchword. If Florida made bourbon, this would be it! It has a lightness of being that nevertheless makes its presence known. Not prototype bourbon, but uniquely memorable. This seems like summer bourbon, so I may have to finish the bottle before November. Not a "Wow!", but a "Hmmm." |
