Description: | Chåteau la Grolet, Cotes du Bourg Rouge, Bordeaux, France 2010 {biodynamic} 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cherry, Warm Cinnamon, Chalky Tannins, Herbal Elegance During the French Revolution the royalist proprietor of Chåteau la Grolet found himself on the wrong end of a guillotine. Is it the bloodstained land or the iron-rich gravel that gives this wine such complex minerality? The Hubert family bought the property in 1997 to take advantage of the old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon. That alone would blend happily with the dark fruit and rich spice of dominant Merlot here, but it's the earthy presence of Cabernet Franc that makes this wine something truly special. Serving Suggestions: Rib-eye steak with blue cheese butter and grilled onions, or a ripe wedge of Brillat-Savarin with a crusty baguette on a warm fall afternoon. |
