Description: | Tasting Notes\r\n2015 was a very warm year which resulted in wines rich in concentration and this wine from our high elevation vineyard is no exception. The aromatics are so expressive and enticing showing a typicity of Cabernet franc, dry herbs and undertones of ripe compote which give this nose a wow factor. There is a loamy, muscular tension to the wine that\r\nsegues into its energy in the mouthfeel resulting in a wine that exudes balance and\r\nage-worthiness - a must add to the cellar.\r\n53% Cabernet Franc, 47% Merlot, 100% Knights Val Ley \r\nRobert Parker 95 Points \r\nWine Spectator 93 Points\r\nProduction: 360 cases 750ml, 40 cases l.5L\r\nBottling: August, 2017\r\nAging: 20 months in French oak\r\nAbout Melka Estates\r\nFounded in 1996 by Cherie and Phillipe Melka, with the drive to create wines that express the voice of the soil.\r\nFour distinctly different labels have developed from this passion over the past 20 years.\r\nCJ \u2013 An acronym for our two by children Chloe & Jeremy, the inspiration for creating this wine was to have a fun project that was youthful in spirit with vibrant fruit. The first vintage of Cj was in 1996, the year Jeremy was born, and it was a mere 200 cases. Today, our annual production is a consistent 1,500 cases and it is crafted from select vineyards in the Napa Valley where we have sourced superior Cabernet grapes. Cj is meant to be enjoyed young but also has proven to age at least ten to fifteen years.\r\nAbout the blend\r\nA distinctive name chosen as an homage to Philippe\u2019s father, this is the name of a river that flows close to his hometown. This is also why the color blue was selected for the eyes on the label as well as the foil. The 25 acre parcel was purchased in 2001 as it was ideal for planting vineyards that could produce wines that would be truly terroir driven. The volcanic ash and clay found in the soils and the extremely high elevation at 2500 feet, is why the three wines made from this single vineyard in Knights Valley are unique. |
