| Description: | Burghound 93 - 96 Points - "a brooding and equally reticent nose possesses more deeply pitched aromas of plum and black cherry liqueur laced with plenty of spice, earth and humus influences. The broad-shouldered, powerful and overtly muscular flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the very firm tannic spine shaping the hugely long and remarkably complex finale. As is usually the case, this is no model of refinement, but this too is a genuine 'wow' wine, provided you have the wherewithal to cellar it for the 20+ years it's going to need. Even if you don't, it's still a most impressive force of nature! *Burghound Don't Miss Outstanding!!*.". Wine Advocate 93 - 95 Points - " The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains opens in the glass with notes of plums, dark berry fruit and cassis mingled with aromas of espresso roast, dark chocolate, rich soil tones and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, it's built around chalky tannins and lively acids. As usual, this is the most overtly built for the long haul of all Chevillon's wines, and it will require the most patience. Bertrand Chevillon reported yields some 50% below average in 2019 but was justly delighted with the quality of the wines. This is another powerful, structured vintage at this address, but the wines are more vibrant than the fine 2018s and more structurally refined, too. As I've written before, this is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy. Old vines, cultivated soils, moderate yields and long fermentations with entirely destemmed grapes are the order of the day at this address, with the Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes seeing some 20% new oak and the premiers crus 30%. Nuits' Tonnellerie Sirugue is the dominant supplier of barrels." |
