Taaibosch Crescendo

Vintage: 2019
Winery: Taaibosch
Description: 98 pts Tim Atkin Mw 2022 Could Schalk-Willem Joubert do it again in 2019 after such an impressive maiden release? You bet he could and he has even improved on that predecessor. This is more precise and nuanced, presenting a seamless assemblage of Cabernet Franc with 26% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon from the windy western corner of the Helderberg. Complex, layered and restrained, with perfumed 35% new wood, graphite, red berry, blackcurrant leaf and tarragon flavours and fresh, sea breeze-kissed finish. 2024-35 97+ pts Greg Sherwood Mw Dec 2022 A right bank blend of 65% Cabernet Franc, 26% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Crescendo shows a big, dense, complex nose with deep dark aromatics of black berries, creme de cassis, sweet cedar and grilled herbs intertwined with graphite, macerated black cherries and a dusty crushed gravel minerality. On the palate the wine is incredibly cool, broad and creamy showing immense power and dry extract concentration on the mid-palate together with wonderfully fine grained spicy mineral tannins and a very long, harmonious focused finish. A superbly complete and texturally pinpoint Cape Bordeaux red blend with a truly Grand Vin classical footprint. An iconic block-buster of the future. Make space in the cellar! 94 pts James Suckling Feb 2024 Very attractive nose of red plums, currants, nutmeg, orange peel and chopped herbs. Medium-bodied and polished with fine-grained tannins. Excellent length. Subtly spicy. 65% cabernet franc, 26% merlot and 9% cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold. 4 ½ Stars 2023 Platter's South African Wine Guide Nuanced, complex mélange of herb-brushed black fruit on 19 (93 pts) blend of cab franc & merlot (65/26), splash of cab. Black forest gateaux from fine tannin from 2 years in third new oak, small & large format. Statuesque, harmonious & lithe. Like 18, will reward patience. 93 pts Decanter Nov 2022 This well-balanced blend is made with 65% Cabernet Franc, 26% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has depth and a nose of licorice, red berries and green bell pepper mixed with cinnamon. The layered palate is full of black and red fruits, with notes of smoke and thyme flowing smoothly due to its nice acidity. Firm tannins shape a good structure.
