Located near the center of this iconic appellation, Round Pond pays tribute to the personality of their estate vineyards by crafting wines that reflect the charm and sophistication of Rutherford. Made from select blocks of their best estate fruit, the Round Pond wines embody the essence of a terroir-inspired, Californian winemaking philosophy. The MacDonnell Family sustainably farms their Napa Green Certified vineyards. They utilize integrated pest management, beneficial insects and have introduced more efficient equipment to reduce water usage in winemaking. Estate winemaker Jeff Plant continues to work alongside his two winemaking compatriots, John Wilson and Thomas Rivers Brown, making this trio a powerhouse of a team! To ensure top quality they maintain vine balance and reduce yields by limiting each vine to two clusters per shoot, making certain that no two clusters touch one another. They discard bad berries, or even entire clusters, and when the fruit is finally picked it represents a meticulous selection of only the finest grapes. A true reflection of that signature Rutherford dust, this Cabernet Sauvignon embodies an old world meets new world style. Blended with a touch of fruit from Oakville, this flagship Estate Cabernet Sauvignon opens with enticing aromas of wild strawberry and cocoa nib. With exquisite texture and a velvety mouthfeel, this wine offers concentrated flavors of ripe raspberry and a hint of blue fruit with beautiful warm notes of allspice and black pepper. Carrying notes of strawberry balanced with a touch of coffee, the finish is satisfyingly long and perfectly summarizes the diverse flavors found on their Rutherford Estate and Oakville vineyards.
