Monteraponi "BARON UGO" Rosso Toscana (radda In Chianti)

Monteraponi "BARON UGO" Rosso Toscana (radda In Chianti)

Vintage: 2018
Description: Organically Grown. 90% Sangiovese, 7% Canaiolo, 3% Colorino. Wine Advocate 95 Points - "Monteraponi follows a Burgundy-adjacent farming philosophy that seeks to carve out distinct identities for strong red and white wines. The top-shelf red from the estate is the organic 2018 Baron'Ugo, a blend of 90% Sangiovese with smaller parts Canaiolo and Colorino for more color and vibrant fruit flavors. This vintage delivers a very clean and polished execution, and there is plenty of freshness, thanks to vineyard positioning at a cool and breezy 560 meters in elevation on limestone alberese soils. The oak is woven in a delicate manner in this wine. Production is 6,600 bottles. This is a little treasure from Tuscany.". "Estate-grown, average vine age 40 years, at an altitude of 570 meters (1,900 feet) above sea level, marl/limestone clay soil; no added yeast, nutrients, or malolactic bacteria are used, fermentation takes place in cement tanks, followed by a maceration of around 45 days on the skins; the wines are aged in 3,000 liter oak barrels for 36 months, and not fined or filtered. Beautiful wine, one of the best Sangioveses Ive had, certainly in the very top rank of Chianti Classico. Middling red color; aroma and flavor full of spices, with tobacco-leaf, sandalwood, and red fruits. Very long, very complex; drinkable on release but will certainly age for at least 15 years. This and a grilled rib-eye would be heaven on earth (or perhaps a porterhouse, for the classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina). The wine will age beautifully for at least several decades."- Oliver Mccrum Imports
