| Description: | Altano is produced by the 5th generation of the Symington family, known for their distinguished history of producing premium Vintage Ports in the Douro region, under labels such as Graham's, Warre's, Dow's and Quinta do Vesuvio. As a natural extension of their interest in and dedication to making Port, the Symingtons began producing Douro DOC table wines seriously in 1999, applying their skill and expertise to ensure that the results reflect their tradition of making the world's finest wines. Today seven members of the Symington family are involved in the business, personally managing all aspects of winemaking from the vineyard to the final bottling of the wines. The Symingtons released their first Altano red in 1999. Today, Altano reds are produced solely with grapes from 100% estate vineyards. The grapes for the Altano whites come from specific vineyards privately owned by members of the family and selected farmers with vineyards in higher altitude areas, many who have supplied the estate for decades. This Altano Tinto is a full-bodied, fruity red made with a blend of traditional grape varieties, including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Ideal for everyday, informal drinking at home with family or with friends, a great wine to relax and unwind. Pairs well with a wide variety of dishes. Altano reflects its Douro origins perfectly: generous aromas of wildflowers (rose and lavender); full-bodied structure with fresh, ripe and assertive fruit (plums, blackberry, currants and black cherries); spice and chocolate undertones. This is a delicious dry red, with good depth and lovely freshness. |
