Arianna Occhipinti has been one of the stars of the modern-day Italian wine scene for her minimalist winemaking philosophy and the quality to back it up. Some might call these "natural" wines, but for her the term is loaded with complications and misconceptions; to her they are simply "wines of place," in little need of her interventions. That place is Vittoria, in the southeastern part of Sicily where she grew up. The beauty of the vine is that its variations like Frappato and Nero d'Avola have adapted wonderfully to this hot, dry place that feels the brunt of the sirocco winds from North Africa. Now's your chance to get these delicious, vibrant and well-balanced Mediterranean wines!. For Arianna, the wine that perhaps most deeply represents her - and Vittoria - is the pure Frappato. It's made with a bit more extraction from the skins and aged an additional year in seasoned Austrian oak barrels for a deeper, more complex wine. Streamlined and medium-light in weight, the wine shows off a mlange of aromas and flavors like macerated strawberry, Morello cherry, pomegranate and citrus fruits, along with floral and baking spice accents, and accompanied by subtler notes like white pepper, tea leaves, and iron-rich earth. Compared with the typical Frappato (or the Sp68 Rosso), this is more structured, concentrated and savory-toned, with lightly grippy tannins that create appetizing mineral sensations. This is a highly drinkable red that's best served around a cool 58-62f, with time to open in the glass. Delicious with dishes with pomegranate (like Fesenjan ) and roasted beets, lean grilled meats and fish, vibrant tomato-based sauces like Amatriciana, and lemony hummus!. Limit 3 Bottles.
