Luigi Einaudi "VIGNA Costa GRIMALDI" Terlo Barolo
Vintage: | 2019 |
---|---|
Description: | Cellar Selection. Einaudi's Terlo district wine comes from a recognized section called Costa Grimaldi, and is known for being a powerhouse of a Barolo, burly-structured and concentrated in contrast to the "elegant, floral" character that's often said to be the typical style from these parts. Despite its location at the end of the warm Barolo valley, the vineyards face the cooler morning sun and is well-exposed to air currents, slowing down the ripening. The built-up concentration makes this a wine that takes time to unwind, whether in the decanter or in the cellar!. Wine Spectator 94 Points - "a slightly austere red, with a core of pure cherry buried within a dense texture and a tannic structure. Though tightly wound, this shows concentrated fruit, along with iron, tobacco, tar and eucalyptus flavors. Best from 2027 through 2049.". Kerin O'keefe 94 Points - "Woodland berry, camphor, spearmint and pressed rose petal lead the nose along with whiffs of underbrush and oak-driven spice. Youthfully austere at this stage, the tense, focused palate features spiced cranberry, red cherry, blood orange, ground clove and dried mint set against a backbone of tightly knit, fine-grained tannins and firm acidity. It closes on a hint of coffee bean. It needs time to fully develop and will age for decades. Abv: 14.5% Kerin OKeefe February 2023 kerinokeefe.com.com" |
