| Description: | 88 pts Vinous/Tanzer Medium red. Aromas of plum, redcurrant and woodsmoke are joined by caramel, coconut and other exotic evidence of American oak on the nose. Plush, broad and full in a savory, smoky style; showed more energy and shape with a few minutes in the glass. Began with a touch of roasted fruit character--or was it the oak?--but grew fresher with air. This really spreads out to coat the mouth, finishing with fine tannins and persistent redcurrant fruit. (Incidentally, the less expensive The Den Pinotage is actually livelier and fruitier than the Guillermo but its finish comes across as a bit tart and dry.) |
