Bastille 1789 French Whisky Blend 750ml
| Description: | It is difficult to describe how lovely and unique this whisky is, but I will try. From the Cognac region, in the southwest of France, Bastille is a blended whisky hand-crafted from malted barley and wheat, distilled in alembic pot stills aged initially in Limousin oak then secondarily in cherry and acacia casks; to finish off this extraordinary process it is then diluted with pure Gensac spring water, filtered naturally for centuries through Grande Champagne limestone. The aroma is full of peaches, apricots, greengage plums, orange marmalade, over-ripe pineapple, chocolate, caramel and malt-so tempting. The palate begins much spicier than the nosing implies, but after the initial spice burst the flavors resolve to display the aromas as tastes. The finish is moderate, balanced, nectarous, peculiar and deliciously quizzical. Try this neat, with a splash of water or with iceand revel in this gloriously easy to sip whisky, from a place more known for its wine and brandies but not for long. |
