| Description: | Blend of rums aged five to fourteen years in used bourbon and whisky barrels and then finished in sherry casks. It has been a long time since Brugal introduced a new rum under the Brugal label. 1888 was worth the wait. Launched in 2011, the number 1888 commemorates the year Don Andres Brugal Montaner founded the rum company that is synonymous today with rum in the Dominican Republic. Distilled from 100% Dominican Republic molasses in the company's continuous, two-column still, the fresh distillate is aged in used, medium-toasted, American white oak casks between five and fourteen years. After aging in American oak casks, the maturation process continues in select European first-filled sherry casks. Unlike most of the other Brugal rums, the casks for Brugal 1888 are aged horizontally, ensuring more contact between the wood and the spirit.A little water opens this sipping rum to the palate, but it can certainly be enjoyed neat with dark chocolate or an aged cheese as the finale to a great meal. |
