| Description: | Zweigelt is an immensely attractive grape. It has a bright fruitiness that is always appealing. Sometimes the grape can be made in a simple, refreshing style, a little like a village Beaujolais. At other times it can be made seriously, such as the Ried Hallebuhl from Umathum, and can compete with the best reds anywhere. Umathum makes it in several different styles. This wine is medium bodied, maybe not a profound wine, but a deeply satisfying one for a very fair price. As usual here, the wine is all natural yeast, biodynamically farmed and raised and aged in large neutral oak casks (fuder). It's peppery, but with a lovely cherry fruit entry. Vineyard is mostly gravel and rather stony. |
