Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (very high to high shoulder, bin soiled labels, nicked capsules)

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends from Pauillac

Vintage: 1978
Description: 94 points Wine Spectator. Beautiful deep-garnet color, with classic Médoc flavors of plum, spice, earth and mineral. Tannic, well-balanced, mouth-filling, chewy in its intensity but needs time. Drinkable now, but probably better to wait until about 1998.--Lafite Rothschild vertical. (11/1991) Jancis Robinson. Very aromatic and lively and fresh. Quite light. 'Rather an old-fashioned wine, slightly 19th century. The only advantage it had was its acidity. It offers no resistance in any way to being drunk.' Baron Eric de Rothschild. 17/20 points. (JR) (4/2005) K&L Notes. Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the 5 First Growth Bordeaux, and one of the most famous and collected wines in the world. The vineyard covers 112 hectares and is well-drained and well-exposed, with soil made up of fine deep gravel, mixed with aeolian sand on a subsoil of tertiary limestone. The Estate dates back to at least the 13th century and has had an amazing and prestigious history to look back upon.
