| Description: | Organically Farmed. 100% Merseguera. This is one of the up-and-coming great varieties (and wineries) in Spain. For a medium weight, this has a rich texture akin to the softness you can find in Viognier, along with a similar, moderately expressive floral and fruit display, like rose and stone fruits (ripe nectarine, peach). Along with that is a well-meshed cedar spice and bright, firm acidity that gives form to the moderately rich mid-palate. Finishes in a clean, tapered fashion, encouraging another sip. Pair with seafood rice dishes (Valencia is home to paella) and Mediterranean bean salads (go light on vinegar or use lemon), roasted/grilled chicken, fatty fish, and soft cheeses (even a little bleu). Vegan. The Finca Calvastra vineyard is a tiny plot at 900 meters altitude, with 100+ year old vines comingled with ancient olive trees. The Merseguera, which favors the slow ripening conditions at high altitude is one of very few plots and the only single vineyard of this almost extinct variety. The wine is aged 9-12 months in French oak as well as acacia wood barrels. |
