Glen Scotia 15 Year Old Scotch

Glen Scotia 15 Year Old Scotch

Description: Glen Scotia 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky embodies the true character of Campbelltown single malt whisky. This exceptional dram is matured for 15 years in the finest, specially selected American oak barrels, handpicked by Master Distiller Iain McAllister. Bottled at 92 proof and made from 100% malted barley, this single malt delivers a rich nose of citrus peels, ginger snap biscuits and fruit aromas. Expect a complex palate with dry notes and caramelized as well as woody flavors, brought out best with a drop of water. 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gold Medal Winner Richer colors. Broad and medium-weight with citrus peels, ginger snap biscuits. Sweet and with great depth. Apricot aromas develop then drift towards fruit salad. After a short time the wood come to the fore and water helps to release baked fruit. A complicated palate where the initial nose would lead you to expect plump fruits, what you get is a surprisingly dry element. The palate fleshes out as the first impact of the nose fades. Adding water brings out the caramelized elements balanced with the wood elements expected of a 15 yr old. The finish is firm and slightly dry. Situated in the heart of Campbeltown, Glen Scotia is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. The Scotch distillery was founded by the Galbraith family in 1832. In 2014, the petite facility was purchased by the Loch Lomond Group. The distillery is quite small scale, outfitted with two 12,000 and 16,000-liter stills, with distinctive onion shapes and horizontal lyne arms. Glen Scotia's line-up showcases their versatility, as they produced a range of peated and non-peated whiskies, two styles characteristic of Campbelltown, once known as the "whisky making capitol". Their malt is sourced from eastern Scotland, and crafted in open-topped, cast iron mash tuns, and their whiskies are processed with a variation in fermentation time yielding either nuttier, or fruitier malts. Their small-batch distillation process still maintains much of the original equipment designs dating back to the 1830s.
