It's medium-to full-bodied with crisp acidity and a flavorful finish. I keep thinking about oysters while I taste this! Bright and delicious sauvignon blanc. Drink now.-James Suckling. The 2020 Poggio Alle Gazze Dell'Ornellaia is 69% Sauvignon Blanc, 22% Vermentino, 5% Viognier, and the rest Verdicchio, and there are just 350 cases produced. It's a lively, vibrant white that brings solid richness and depth, with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe lemon zest, melon, sappy green herbs, and a subtle, earthy, chalky mineral component that makes this more than a simple, refreshing white. Nicely concentrated, it has plenty of mid-palate flesh, bright, almost racy, yet integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's going to shine on the dinner table and is a seriously good white that I suspect will drink at point for another 3-4 years yet also have an interesting evolution beyond that. It's easily my favorite vintage of this cuvée to date.-Jeb Dunnuck. Intense savory notes dominate the nose of this wine, from caramelized onions to fried herbs to fresh pastry. Lemon and other citrus offer an acidic throughline that carries over to a still very savory and now also saline palate. More spicy, herbal notes run through a leisurely finish. - Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast. Sauvignon Blanc dominant on the nose, with a flick of gunsmoke reduction. Great pace and momentum through the palate, this is mouthwatering and seductive, layering brambled gooseberry with citrus and safe alongside slate salinity. So easy to recommend this white wine from director Axel Heinz and oenologist Olga Fusari. 25% new oak, blend at the end of ageing. 12 months in bottle before release.-Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux. Bright, radiant straw yellow. On the nose there are clear hints of Sauvignon, flint, lime and grapefruit, as well as fine salty components. Very juicy and very salty on the palate, spreads nicely over the tongue, dances, then breaks down a bit towards the back, great aromatic accompaniment to food.-Falstaff. Lovely refined aromas, elderflower, peach, apricot, some white flowers and gently bitter orange rind. I love the texture here, smooth and succulent, a very satisfying weight - bright with such aromatic intensity. Body and texture here, a good food wine, with acidity giving lemon and lime touches and a clarity left on the tongue towards the finish. Very appealing.-Georgina Hindle, Decanter. The Ornellaia 2020 Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia is a delightfully fresh and tonic white blend made primarily with Sauvignon Blanc supplemented by Vermentino and Viognier. It pours from the bottle with crystalline luminosity and displays a full range of varietal flavors from lime to lemon grass, white flower and acacia. Despite the hot growing season, the wine's acidity is vibrant and bright. The 2020 Poggio Alle Gazze is a bright, aromatic white to drink now and over the next tew years. White flowers, sage, mint, pear and citrus are all finely delineated. There's great energy and focus. The Sauvignon Blanc is quite expressive in the 202O.-Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media. On opening the already-broached bottle, there was a real pop suggesting quite a bit of dissolved gas in the wine. It's certainly a heck of a lot more complex than the early, rather thin Sauvignons I remember being sold under this name. It's quite rich with the Sauvignon a mere ingredient and quite a heady perfume that's almost more Viognier than Vermentino. Lots of ambition and substance here. It's not the most refreshing Sauvignon-based wine you'll encounter but it certainly isn't short of personality. Definitely for the table rather than the terrace before a meal. I see the Ornellaia team have gone to great lengths to canvas chefs for pairings for this wine. Enjoy it while the first blush of youth is on it.-Jancis Robinson
