| Description: | Full red-ruby. Much more sauvage on the nose than the Charmes-Chambertin that preceded it in my tasting, offering scents of blackberry, blueberry, violet, cocoa powder, licorice and shoe polish. Youthfully tight and extremely primary, verging on austere but not hard. The flavors of black cherry, licorice and shoe polish are complicated by an element of medicinal herbs. Not expansive today but still possesses the suppleness of the year and finishes with echoing length. These vines were harvested very late, noted Laurent, adding that he's never been a big fan of Mazis-Chambertin. (VInous) |
