Poujeaux (375ML)

Poujeaux (375ML)

From Moulis-en-Medoc

Vintage: 2009
Description: 93 De / 93 JS / 92 Jd / 92 Vm / 92 Wci / 92 Fs / 16.5 Jr. One of the best value 2009s that you can find in terms of its ability to deliver signature Moulis-Médoc character without having to wait too long or think too hard. Dark brambled fruits, tannins that are now soft and melted, with layers of cigar box, mint leaf, crushed stones and saffron. Even better out of magnum if you can find it, no need to wait to drink but plenty to enjoy. 5% Cabernet Franc completes the blend.-Jane Anson, Decanter. Intense aromas of orange peel, blackberries and hints of mushrooms. Full body, with a solid core of soft and velvety tannins and a fruity finish. Well structured. One of the best wines from here in years.-James Suckling. Pretty tobacco, damp earth, cedar, leafy herbs, and darker fruits all emerge from the 2009 Château Poujeaux, a rich, medium-bodied, impressively concentrated Moulis. With rocking mid-palate depth and sweet tannins, drink this totally seductive 2009 over the coming decade.-Jeb Dunnuck. (50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 5% each petit verdot and cabernet franc): Bright ruby-red. Cassis, blueberry, graphite and smoky oak aromas are lifted by a floral element. Broad, rich and enveloping, with a restrained sweetness to the pliant flavors of dark berries, spices and graphite. Layered, minerally and long, with firm, building tannins coating the front teeth. Really splendid density and texture for Moulis wine, and a great vintage for Poujeaux. This large chateau, among the finest properties in Moulis, was purchased in 2008 by Philippe Cuvelier, who also owns Clos Fourtet. The same team of manager Nicolas Thienpont and enologist Stephane Derenoncourt was responsible for superb 2009s at both estates.-Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media This is really showing all of its, soft, supple-textured, sweet plums and cherries, with their flowers and cocoa accents. Medium/full-bodied, with some richness and refined tannins, and a cool note of dark tobacco leaf, if you have been sitting on any, now is a good time to start popping a cork. No need to decant, just pop, pour and enjoy, Drink from 2022-2035.-Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider
