Massolino Margheria Barolo

Vintage: 2019
Description: Vinous 96 Points - "The 2019 Barolo Margheria is a classic Serralunga Barolo. Deep, savory and wonderfully complex, the Margheria offers up a compelling mix of red/purplish fruit, sage, menthol, licorice, dried flowers, graphite and melted road tar. Muscular tannins wrap it all together. The 2019 is seriously impressive.". Wine Spectator 95 Points - "The delicate aromas and flavors of rose, strawberry and cherry are backed by a layer of dense tannins, with iron, tobacco and eucalyptus notes adding depth as this cruises to a long, expansive finish. Impressive now, this should only improve with age. Best from 2027 through 2048." B.s. The Serralunga d'Alba estate has been family-run since 1896, and as they grew into their roles as growers and winemakers with each passing decade, they accumulated some great vineyards (often referred to as crus, a French term used when talking about prime sites). As Nebbiolo is one of those varieties that reflects vineyard differences most vividly, it became vital for wineries to bottle their best vineyards to showcase this. Variations aside, the wines from Massolino's sites are all full-bodied with particularly brooding tannic structure, a countering lift of vibrant acidity, and a beguiling perfume that features dark spices, tobacco, and 'crushed stone' or iron-ore. While they will all benefit from some additional aging, weve listed the wines in rough order of approachability if you choose to try them sooner. As always for powerful, young Barolos like these, we suggest aerating for several hours before serving and partner them with a rich, flavorful meal!
