Moulinat Bordeaux Rouge

Vintage: 2018
Description: As usual in Bordeaux, the unusual class here comes down to location – at the highest point in the Medoc, between Margaux and Saint-Julien. Our supplier says:. In the 19th Century, the Château was classified as a first Cru Artisan, with about 6 hectares of vines which produced 30 tonneaux (900 litre barrels) of excellent wine from Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Unfortunately, during the phyloxera period at the end of 19th Century and start of the 20th Century, the whole of the vineyard was destroyed and production was ceased. The entire vineyard was then re-planted on one of the highest points of the Médoc overlooking the Gironde. On this site, there still exists a fortified windmill built in 1395 which served as a look out post under the reign of Louis XV and in particular during the 7 Year War (1756 to 1763) to signal to Fort Médoc and the Citadelle at Blaye that enemy ships were approaching. And from then came the name of Château Moulinat from the top of whose windmill we can see Château Lafite Rothschild to the North and Château Margaux to the South. The vineyard, which has been reconstituted over the last 30 years is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5 % cabernet Franc which produce wines which express the Médoc terroir beautifully irrespective of vintage. Deep purple robe. Powerful fruit aromas(black fruits, berries, cassis)and notes of vanilla. Soft on the attack, a full bodied wine with plenty of depth and balance, tight tannins showing excellent ageing potential. Here's the Washington Post on the 2015:. Textbook Bordeaux, offering the traditional "pencil" graphite aromas over scents of plum, cherry and blackcurrant. And the wine kept getting better over a few days, suggesting it will last for several years in your cellar, and will reward decanting if you can't wait. Sustainably farmed, it is packaged in a traditional wooden box for a case. Beautiful wine.
