Description: | Located in the northwest of Montalcino, Castiglion del Bosco is something very special. This estate, purchased by Massimo Ferragamo in 2003, is surrounded by the Val d'Orcia Parco Naturale, a protected natural preserve. Beyond its pristine location, Castiglion del Bosco has a history that goes back to 600 BC, and the estate was one of the founding members of the Brunello Consortium. Castiglion del Bosco boasts 153 acres of vineyards in two sites, the 50-acre Gauggiole in the north and the 103-acre Capanna vineyard in the south. Gauggiole sports clayey, rocky soils that grow fresh, robust Brunello berries primarily used in the estate's Rosso di Montalcino, while Capanna's rocky, gravelly vines see greater diurnal temperature changes that makes its grapes perfect for the winery's complex, vibrant Brunello. Winemaker Cecilia Leoneschi works diligently to preserve terroir, local traditions, and a strong connection to the soil in making her expressive, elegant wines. An ancient estate with a regal history, Castiglion del Bosco sees a bright, beautiful future with its wines that honor tradition and while appealing to a broad range of sophisticated palates. |
