From Chablis

Description: | 95 De / 95 Jm / 95 JS / 94+ Wa / 93 Bh / 17.5+ Jr. This comes from two south and south-east-facing parcels in the highest part of the Grand Cru and tends to make quite austere wines, even in vintages like 2018. Very much a wine for Chablis purists, it's taut and very pithy, with impressive focus, bite and palate length and deftly integrated 40% new wood. The dry extract adds extra backbone.--Charles Curtis Mw, Decanter. Pale primrose. Medium to full concentration on the nose. Then an explosion on the palate, with both depth and great clarity. This has a fine touch to it that augurs very well. Really fine boned without in anyway sacrificing intensity. Brilliantly classy. Diam 10 closure. Tasted: May 2022.--Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy. What a beautiful white with many fine, intertwined layers of fruit and acidity, delivering such a serious and subtle glass. It's medium-to full-bodied with creamy texture and a flavorful finish. Really intriguing and thought-provoking. Drink or hold.--James Suckling. Not quite star bright yet. Pale colour. Lively light yellow fruit on the nose, expressing the sunshine but there is great energy here too, a lively leaping Valmur rather than a sultry one. Very persistent, and the mineral crunch is absolutely there. Jasper Morris – Inside Burgundy. The 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is one of the most powerful, muscular wines in the range, delivering notes of pear, citrus oil, oyster shells, beeswax and white flowers. Full-bodied, deep and layered, with a textural attack, racy acids and a long, mineral finish, it should prove one of the most long-lived wines in Fèvre's portfolio this year. William Kelley – The Wine Advocate. Note: from a 1.1 ha parcel of vines that is close to Vaudésir and extends all the way from Grenouilles to the tree line at the top of the hill. Tasting note: There is just enough wood to notice framing the green fruit, quinine, algae and ocean breeze-inflected aromas. The mouthfeel of the big, bold and robust flavors is muscular and serious while displaying outstanding length on the super-saline and impressively complex if only moderately dry finale. This too is quite impressive though it is very clearly built for extended aging. Allen Meadows – Burghound. Slightly introvert, despite a hint of aromatic herbs, this has attractive density of lemon and yellow apple, with plenty of chalky and flinty mineral flavours. Long, flinty and spicy finish. Complete and with lovely potential. (tj) JancisRobinson.com |
