Founded by Giovanni Maria Fuligni at the start of the twentieth century upon lands that had belonged to his family for centuries, the Fuligni estate sits in the northeastern Brunello subregion, where it makes some of Montalcino's most delicious, transparent, and elegant wines. The Fuligni estate's biggest strongpoint is its land — about 247 acres, of which about 32 acres is under vine. Fuligni sports impressive holdings: northeast-facing vineyards pitched at 1,250-1,480 feet above sea level, mineral-rich galestro soils for the estate's Sangiovese vines, clay-rich soil for its plot of Merlot, sixteenth-century cellars below the Fuligni family's home seat for making the estate's line of six wines, and a restored former convent for aging them. Roberto Guerrini Fuligni helms the estate with his aunt, Maria Flora Fuligni, who assumed the estate's reins when her father, Giovanni, passed away in 1971. Jacopo Vagaggini serves as enologist, and under his thoughtful care, Fuligni's naturally low yields are reduced further, which helps terroir shine. The Fuligni team blends international and traditional protocol to craft its wines, allowing the estate's Brunello, Brunello Riserva, Rosso di Montalcino, and Super Tuscans to age in a variety of barriques and vats, all the better to elicit the finest profile. A Brunello producer with an enviable track record, even in difficult years, Fuligni makes wines that are easy to enjoy, share, and love. |
