Description: Critical Acclaim Wine Enthusiast 91 - Made entirely from Nerello Mascalese, this vibrant wine opens with blue flower, red-skinned berry and thyme aromas. Wine Advocate 88 - Fruit to make this wine is sourced from the Contrada Sciaranova in Randazzo. The 2014 Sicilia Ghiaia Nera is an easy and relatively fruit-forward red wine that is ideal for near-term drinking. The bouquet offers a pretty assembly of forest berry aromas followed by underbrush and blue flower. This easy red ages in large oak casks for 12 months, gaining extra stability and a better sense of structure. Harvested from the Tascante estates on the Etna volcano. It is an ageless vine growing passion made of volcanic black soil, dry lava stone walls and surrounded by the great biodiversity in the chestnut trees and oak forests often interrupted by "sciare" (lava flows) rich of musk and lichens, where man's hands can make more than any modern tractor. Made from Nerello Mascalese grapes cultivated on the north slopes of the volcano. Brilliant, ruby red in color, the nose reveals strong floral scents, wisteria, and red berries. On the palate it is fresh, reactive, balanced and characterized by a good persistence. Pairings It goes well with rich pasta dishes, including stuffed pasta, and main courses of white and red meat. To try with a meat couscous.
